Practice

Our clients range in size and scope from large, national corporations to small businesses and individual proprietors. The firm’s major areas of practice include business organizations and transactions, commercial and civil litigation, civil appeals, estate planning, commercial real estate transactions, financing and development, bankruptcy and creditor’s rights, and employment. From these core practice areas, our lawyers have developed broad-based experience in a variety of legal settings, as well as extensive accomplishments in resolving disputes through negotiation, arbitration, mediation, trial and the appellate courts.

Our litigators have substantial experience in both state and federal court. Their litigation experience includes civil and commercial contract disputes and failed business transactions, municipal defense work, insurance coverage and enforcement issues, personal injury and medical malpractice, environmental law, employment law, creditor’s rights, collection work and civil appeals. Our litigators have represented our clients at all levels of civil disputes, ranging from small claims court to highly contested, multi-party federal actions. Based on our reputation and familiarity with local custom and practice, we routinely serve as local counsel for larger, national firms who need guidance in actions that are pending in this area.

Assisting our litigation department is an extremely knowledgeable support staff of paralegals and legal assistants. This staff provides our clients with an economical alternative to such necessary litigation roles as pre-trial discovery and trial preparation.

McGreevy Williams also has a substantial practice assisting business entities, such as corporations, limited liability companies and partnerships, along with their owners, with their internal affairs and business transactions. We represent numerous owners and developers in the purchase and sale of retail, industrial, development and redevelopment, multi-family and industrial properties.

Our commercial and real estate work often involves due diligence assistance, review and negotiation of financing documents, tax-deferred exchanges, assemblages, land entitlement and general development issues.

The negotiation and preparation of leases for various types of commercial and industrial properties are other activities in which we have extensive experience. We have worked with a number of our clients on the development of condominium properties, including conversions. We represent several general contractors whom we help with contract drafting and negotiation, as well as bonding issues, land use, and regulatory compliance. We have worked extensively on design/build contracts and related issues.

The areas of bankruptcy and estate planning are also areas of concentration within our office. One of our partners dedicates almost his entire practice to bankruptcy work, focusing his practice on the representation of creditors both on an advisory basis and in protecting creditors’ rights. He also serves as one of the few bankruptcy trustees who have been appointed to do work in the Northern District of Illinois, Western Division, bankruptcy court.

Our estate planning lawyers are also well experienced in the preparation of estate planning documents, probate work and estate administration, guardianship and elder law.

We strongly believe that the scope of our experience and expertise continues to set the mark in the Rockford legal community. We are confident that our lawyers are more than able to handle your legal needs, and we are certain that you will be impressed with our services.
